Kohl’s Corp. has reported that, for the five-week month ended September 29, total sales decreased 1.4%. Comparable store sales decreased 2.7% from the five-week month ended October 1. Sales came in below published average analyst estimates. Footwear was the strongest product category in September with comps up in the low single digits. Home also outperformed the company average with a low single comp decrease. Comps in the South Central, West and Northeast regions declined low single digits while those in the Mid Atlantic, Midwest and Southeast declined in the mid single digits. Kohls opened 12 new stores in September and now operates 1,146 stores in 49 states versus 1,127 stores at the same time last year.
