Prosper Mobile Insights: Holiday Mobile Purchasing Could Be Substantial Wednesday December 5th, 2012 - 10:24AM

Almost half of mobile users, or 45%, are somewhat or very likely to use a mobile browser or application as a means of making a purchase this holiday season, according to Prosper Mobile Insights. In a study conducted by the market research firm, 34.2% of mobile users said they are likely to swipe or tap their device to pay for a transaction in a store. Apple iOS users with iPhone or iPad devices may be slightly more likely to utilize mobile payments for holiday purchases as 37.7% said they are somewhat or very likely to use a device to pay in store versus 32.9% of Android users. In addition, 48.4% of iOS users are somewhat or very likely to purchase via a mobile browser or app versus 46.5% of Android users, according to Prosper Mobile Insights. Mobile users told the market research firm that free shipping, 57.7%, coupons, 47.7% and free gifts with purchases, 36.9%, might encourage a smartphone or tablet purchase. Trailing enticements were next day shipping, 21.6%, and hold item for store pick-up, 13.5%.
