LG Electronics has unveiled a totally redesigned robotic vacuum, the LG HOM-BOT Square. The company said the new robot vac offers “improved cleaning technologies and smart capabilities for easy cleaning on virtually any surface.” With the product slated for public unveiling at next week's International CES in Las Vegas, LG will take the occasion to demonstrate its newly designed Corner Master technology, a feature set that includes improved sensors and longer brushes. Upgraded technology allows the HOM-Bot to tackle hard-to-reach places around a home. "From the beginning, we jumped into this project with the realization that consumers' rooms aren't round, they're rectangular," said Seong-jin Jo, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. "In practically every house around the world, rooms have right-angle corners, so it made perfect sense to develop a vacuum that took this into account. The HOM-BOT Square makes cleaning the hard-to-reach places effortless." Ultrasonic and infrared sensors detect obstacles, while the vacuum's Dual Eye 2.0 cameras scan and map rooms, even when the lights are turned off. The Turbo Mode settings let users manually adjust the cleaner to best match the characteristics of their flooring while Smart Turbo Mode automatically changes its own settings based on the type of flooring.
