The International Housewares Association said it will showcase inspired design and cutting-edge product innovation from around the world in Discover Design, an International Home + Housewares Show feature that will include more than 100 exhibitors when the event launches on March 2. The Housewares Show runs through March 2 to 5 at McCormick Place in Chicago, with Discover Design located in the South Building’s Dine + Design Expo. Among the new companies exhibiting at this year’s Discover Design showcase are style leaders Koziol, Legnoart and Menu, IHA asserted, along with new entries including Areaware and Ameico. Among the design-inspired exhibitors returning in 2013 are Alessi, ASA, Blomus, Deagourmet, Joseph Joseph, Nambe, Robert Welch Designs and Room Copenhagen, the organization noted, adding that a complete list of exhibitors is posted at www.housewares.org/discoverdesign. New for 2013, Discover Design will incorporate several breakout suppliers in a new section dubbed Design Debut, IHA related, including Anne Black, Toast, Deglon, Aramis and Headsprung. Discover Design also will feature an invitation-only Discover Design Specialty Retailer & Media Reception at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, the return of the Discover Design Gallery, open for the entire show, and the Discover Design Wine Bar. Discover Design companies once again are eligible to compete for Global Innovation Awards, or gia, honors for product innovation and booth design. “In its first two years, Discover Design was a resounding success, attracting design-savvy buyers all four days of the show,” said Phil Brandl, IHA president. “Visitors who flocked to the Discover Design Gallery paid particular attention to the more than 300 products in contention for the prestigious Global Innovation Awards for product design.” Each exhibitor can submit two new products and one collection for gia consideration. Products must be new to the United States market and will be judged by a gia jury of retailers, designers and journalists. An invitation-only gia international awards dinner on Sunday, March 3, will center on the awards presentation.
