The new Sarjaton collection by Iittala will appear in the Nordic Design Illustrated exhibition at the Nordic Cool 2013 festival. Held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, this month-long international festival of theater, dance, music, visual arts, literature, design, cuisine and film will highlight the diverse Scandinavian cultures of Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. For Sarjaton, Iittala has brought together six young Finnish designers from fashion, product, graphic and digital design background including Harri Koskinen, whose pieces feature in the Nordic Design exhibition. Sarjaton is a complete yet pared down selection of 26 individual items. Detailed attention to materials is key in the event, with glass, ceramic, wood and textiles included in the collection. The earthy tones of pearl gray, white, mud, red clay and old rose make a base for tactile surfaces, and patterns and reliefs reside on both shiny and semi-matt glazing. The Nordic Cool 2013 festival will run through March 17. Tags: Housewares Tabletop |
