Haier Opens Silicon Valley Innovation Center

In an effort to identify and develop the latest technology innovations into its products and brands, Haier Home Appliances Industry Group has opened a Silicon Valley Innovation Center in Redwood City, CA.

The newly opened location will serve as a key resource for all Haier product lines, focusing on the rapid advances being made at local research facilities, universities, venture capital-backed startups and incubators and tier-one OEMs, according to the company.

The Silicon Valley Innovation Center will be the North American hub for all of Haier’s advanced technology outreach, but it will work in close collaboration with sister sites in Israel and Shanghai under the guidance of Dr. Tao Xie, general manager of global R&D centers operation, the company said.

“As we build our connections and presence across the innovation community in Silicon Valley and beyond, we will also be exploring ways of engaging with the innovation ecosystem that makes the U.S. ecosystem so unique,” said Peter Himes, who will serve as general manager of the Silicon Valley Innovation Center. “We’re not just looking at technologies that will impact the appliance industry in the next five years. We are focused on longer-term projects that will shape the future of our industries and the way owners interact with their appliances five and even 10 years from now.”
