Amazon To Open Sixth Texas Fulfillment Center

Amazon.com plans to open a sixth Texas fulfillment center in Haslet, making it the fourth fulfillment center in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the e-commerce company.

The company said it currently employs more than 8,000 full-time hourly associates at its Texas fulfillment centers and plans to create 1,000 more full-time positions in the new Haslet facility when it opens.

In addition to its existing Haslet facility, which began shipping customer orders in 2013, Amazon’s other Texas fulfillment centers are located in Coppell, southern Dallas and Schertz, with a fifth currently under construction in San Marcos. Amazon also operates three sortation centers in Texas, located in Irving, Houston and San Antonio.

Employees at the one million square-foot Fort Worth fulfillment center will pick, pack, and ship smaller customer items, such as books, electronics and toys, noted Amazon.

“We are excited to add another fulfillment center to the Dallas-Fort Worth region and to create additional full-time jobs with great pay and benefits,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s vp/North American operations. “We are appreciative of the community, not just in Haslet but the entire Dallas area for its support of Amazon, its top-notch workforce and the customers who enable us to continually grow across the country.”

Amazon also recently announced that it will open a seventh California fulfillment center in San Bernardino, where the company launched its first Golden State fulfillment center in 2012. The new 1.1 million-square-foot San Bernardino fulfillment center will be used to pick, pack, and ship smaller customer items, such as books, electronics and toys. Amazon’s other California fulfillment centers are located in Tracy, Patterson, Moreno Valley, Redlands and Rialto.
