Pantone has revealed its 2016 colors of the year: Serenity and Rose Quartz. According to the company, the two hues are a harmonious pairing of inviting shades that embody a mindset of tranquility and inner peace. This is the first time that Pantone has chosen two hues for its color of the year. “With the whole greater than its individual parts, joined together Serenity and Rose Quartz demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. The company described Serenity (15-3919), a pale blue, as weightless and airy, likening it to the expanse of the blue sky. Serenity comforts with a calming effect, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times. Meanwhile, Pantone described Rose Quartz (13-1520), a soft pink, as a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. The combination of Serenity and Rose Quartz, noted Pantone, challenges some more traditional perceptions around color association. Pantone suggested that Serenity and Rose Quartz, when used for kitchen items and tableware, as well as home accessories like candles, decorative bowls, vases and florals, add subtle color accents while contributing to a welcoming and peaceful space. Pantone also noted that translucent, glazing, matte and metallic shine are key finishes to these colors. The colors of the year also could work well in the home via rugs, upholstery, paint and decorative accessories such as throws, pillows and bedding, said Pantone.
