Stein Mart has named Dawn Robertson CEO. She also will undertake chief merchant responsibilities for the foreseeable future, the company added, and has won election to Stein Mart's board of directors. Robertson succeeds Jay Stein, company founder and CEO. Stein had advised the board that he wished to step back from the chief executive position but remain the company's chairman. Robertson has been CEO or president of several retail companies, including UNKNWN, Deb Shops, Nygard International and The Avenue. She has also held various executive positions at Old Navy, Myer Stores, Federated Department Stores, Saks and May Department Stores. "Dawn brings with her over 25 years' executive management experience at major retailers and department stores," Stein said. "With her leadership and industry knowledge, she will help us build on our growth initiatives and bring a fresh focus to our company and merchandising organization that will benefit us immensely." Stein Mart operates 283 retail locations.
