Walmart has expanded its Walmart Pay smartphone system to more than 4,600 of its stores across the United States, essentially all of the company's retail locations. Available through the Walmart app, the company said Walmart Pay works on any iOS or Android device, in any checkout lane the retailer operates and with any credit, debit, prepaid or gift card the company issues. “There is something very powerful about the ease and simplicity of Walmart Pay,” said Daniel Eckert, svp/services, Walmart U.S. “What’s even more powerful though, is what this means for our customers. We want to make every day easier for busy families. We’re connecting all the parts of Walmart into one seamless shopping experience with great stores, easy pickup, fast delivery, frictionless checkout and apps and websites that are simple to use.” Eckert added, “Walmart Pay is just the beginning. We’re building deeper relationships with our customers across our ecosystem and are looking forward to delivering new tools like Walmart Pay that allow them to use the app as their remote control for a faster, more convenient shopping experience.” Among the benefits Walmart Pay offers is the ability to save multiple gift cards electronically and store receipts online so they won't be lost or forgotten if a product return is necessary. Eckert has characterized the purpose of Walmart Pay as marrying the retailer's physical and digital assets to create a more seamless shopping experience for customers. Not only will Walmart Pay work with most smartphones and accept almost any payment type, but the system will allow integration of other mobile wallets in the future.
