Gibson Overseas has acquired Laurie Gates, and the industry icon behind the namesake brand has joined Gibson's team as vp/creative. The pairing combines Gates' design expertise and industry knowledge with Gibson's production and merchandising reach. Gates brings to the position his knowledge of the industry gained from decades of successfully marketing the Laurie Gates brand, according to Gibson. The brand's bold design choices feature bright, fashionable pieces with vibrant colors. New Laurie Gates designs will be featured at Gibson's Forty One Madison showroom during New York Tabletop Market, held October 13-16. "Joining the Gibson family of professionals is an exciting development for me as a designer and a member of the housewares industry. The combining of talent allows for developing not only amazing table scenes but also new products consumers can use to reflect their sense of fashion as they move through their lives," Gates stated. "Gibson is excited to build on the equity of the Laurie Gates brand. Our goal is to both embrace its essence and enhance it. The Laure Gates brand will emerge as a premier fashion brand in our industry," said Gibson CEO Sal Gabbay.

The holiday season must be approaching, because retailers are adding items to their wish lists. I don’t mean the products expected to be big sellers during the fourth quarter. I’m referring to new demands by retailers to their suppliers for fees, price allowances and other hands-tying arrangements.
