As part of its ongoing distribution expansion, Amazon.com plans to open a new fulfillment center in Monee, IL.
At the approximately 850,000-square-foot facility, hundreds of Amazon employees will pick, pack and ship small items to customers including books, electronics and consumer goods, the company stated.
This marks the sixth fulfillment center Amazon has opened in Illinois, as the company has previously opened facilities in Joliet and Edwardsville. Recently, Amazon.com also announced plans for a new fulfillment center in Romeoville, IL. That facility will encompass a 750,000 square-foot fulfillment center to pick, pack and ship large items to customers.
“We place our fulfillment centers close to customers to provide the fastest possible delivery times, and the growth in Illinois is directly tied to our increasing customer demand,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s vp/North America operations. “Illinois is a great state to do business, and we are happy to be expanding there to serve customers.”
