Amazon is looking to open a second North American headquarters and has opened a request for proposal process for municipalities interested in obtaining more information.
To be known as Amazon HQ2, the company said it expects to invest more than $5 billion in construction and add as many as 50,000 “high-paying jobs.”
In choosing the location for HQ2, Amazon is looking for a metropolitan area with more than one million people, a stable and business-friendly environment, an urban or suburban location with the potential to attract and retain strong technical talent and communities that think big and creatively when considering locations and real estate options.
“We expect HQ2 to be a full equal to our Seattle headquarters,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO. “Amazon HQ2 will bring billions of dollars in up-front and ongoing investments, and tens of thousands of high-paying jobs. We’re excited to find a second home.”
Amazon’s Seattle headquarters is 8.1 million square feet and has 33 buildings. There are more than 40,000 employees that account for $25.7 billion in compensation and the campus is home to 24 restaurants/cafes plus eight other services, according to the company.
