Amazon continues to expand its distribution network and will open new fulfillment centers in Clear Brook, VA, and the Houston suburb of Katy, TX.
The Clear Brook facility, located in the northwest corner of Virginia, will create more than 1,000 full-time positions. The company currently operates three fulfillment centers in Virginia: Chester, Petersburg and Sterling.
“Our ability to expand in the commonwealth is the result of two things: incredible customers and an outstanding workforce in the state,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s vp/North America operations.
Amazon employees at the more than 1 million-square-foot Clear Brook fulfillment center will ship larger customer items such as big-screen televisions, kayaks and patio furniture.
The forthcoming Katy fulfillment center will also create 1,000 jobs and be the 10th Amazon facility in Texas. The company currently operates fulfillment centers in Coppell, Haslet, Dallas, Fort Worth, Schertz and San Marcos and is building two others in Houston and Coppell.
Amazon employees at the one million-square-foot Katy fulfillment center will ship larger-sized customer items, such as music equipment, sports gear, and electronics.
