Architec Housewares has acquired Florida-based Madeira Housewares, a manufacturer of Brazilian teak cutting boards, and the Starboard Collection, a Vermont-based manufacturer of on-the-go dining and serving products.
According to Architec, the acquisitions are part of a strategic plan to expand the scope of the kitchenware company. The move has also enabled the company to establish a national sales team.
“The Madeira company frames our current business really nicely at the premium level as well as with their offerings at grocery,” said Jenna Sellers-Miller, president and CEO of Architec Housewares. “We’re especially excited to incorporate their products, all sourced from plantation farms that are managed sustainably to plant as they cut, which is information we plan to share with consumers to help educate them on the importance of sustainable forestry practices.”
The acquisition includes Madeira’s line of Mario Batali-licensed cutting boards. Madeira president, Mike Rendina, said, “Architec shares our commitment to quality and I have complete confidence that they will continue our focus on innovation and expansion of the Madeira brands, value and service.”
With the Starboard Collection, Architec said it plans to expand the line with the development of acrylic glassware and dining and serving pieces all featuring non-skid, storage friendly, break-resistant qualities. Starboard Collection products are designed for patio, pool, RV, boating, planes and tailgating.
With the establishment of a national sales team, Architec said it is taking an aggressive step in broadening distribution. The team will be headed by Alina Finelli who brings more than ten years of sales and marketing experience in the housewares industry. Megan Grennan will be the sales manager for gourmet gifts and independents, while Jason Norcross, former Madeira vp/sales and marketing, will be the head of strategic account sales.
Architec’s portfolio of housewares brands includes EcoSmart, TSP Baking and Homegrown Gourmet.
