Fitbit has introduced its Alta HR fitness tracker with PurePulse heart rate technology, which is said to be a miniaturization of its heart rate tracking technology, in order to launch its slimmest tracker to date. It has also unveiled two new sleep tools featured in the device.
“Alta HR and these powerful new sleep features demonstrate our continued focus on evolving our innovative technology to deliver deeper, more actionable insights to help our users improve their health,” said James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit. “The miniaturization of our PurePulse heart rate technology opens up exciting opportunities for future generations of devices and new form factors.”
The Alta HR includes features such as continuous heart rate tracking, automatic exercise recognition, sleep tracking, battery life of up to seven days and smart notifications.
The Sleep Stages tool is said to utilize heart rate variability to estimate the amount of time a user spends in light, deep and REM sleep, as well as time awake each night, to better understand sleep quality. The Sleep Insights tool is said to use the whole of a users Fitbit data to provide personalized guidance on how to improve sleep for better overall health.
Users can also connect with the company’s social fitness network through the new Community tab in the Fitbit app, to find support and inspiration, the company said.
The Alta HR wearable is available for presale on the company’s website for $149.95. In early April, it will be available online and in stores, including Amazon.com, Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Target, REI and Verizon.
