Focus On Sparkling Water Fuels SodaStream Q2 Growth

Second quarter sales at SodaStream were up more than 17% with company officials reporting that the ongoing effort to position its appliances around sparkling water is continuing to gain traction.

Total sales for the quarter ended June 30 were $119.2 million, up from sales of $101.7 million in the comparable quarter the previous year. Quarterly net income was $7.8 million, up from net income of $3.5 million from the second quarter of 2015.

“Our work repositioning the SodaStream brand around sparkling water and effectively communicating the compelling benefits of our home carbonation system helped drive double digit revenue growth in each of our four geographic regions,” said Daniel Birnbaum, CEO, SodaStream.

On a geographic basis, sales growth was seen across all key segments including Europe (14%); Asia-Pacific (44%); and Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa (32%). In the Americas, revenue was up 12%.

Within SodaStream’s product segments, sales of sparkling water maker starter kits were up 31% and consumables were up 14%, the company noted.
