The International Contemporary Furniture Fair, currently being held at the Javits Convention Center, is providing clear evidence that both residential and commercial furnishings are getting rethought as consumer lifestyles compel change.
In furniture, ICFF demonstrated that smaller can be better and is in line with what designers and others have heard from the marketplace.
Students were in on the act, too. Design students from Drexel University, perhaps in a better position to understand just where the furniture marketplace is going to go than most, introduced several furniture pieces.
The student designed collection included a work station that provides a place to hang clothing and other items, a built in adjustable lamp and a cell phone platform in addition to a desk top and open space beneath for auxiliary storage. The workstation is fully suited for the everyday needs of workers today but takes up only a few square feet.
