In February, Ikea said it will roll out two new collections for people living in a fluid world that requires greater lifestyle dexterity.
The Ikea PS 2017 and Spidd collections include items such as a three-piece self-watering plant pot set, a folding sofa that can hang on the wall and a duffel bag that offer flexibility in use. Ikea introduced its first PS collection in 1995 and has been revisiting the group every three years or so, each time with a unique theme.
The latest theme revolves around building unique home lifestyles. Products offered in the new PS collection include a 3D-knitted armchair and a no-assembly storage unit as well as the three-piece self-watering plant pot and the folding sofa. In addition, Ikea will include food with a furnishings collection. The new edibles include Nordic whole grains, spice mixes and instant beverages that can combine for a quick and tasty meal when time is of the essence.
The Spridd collection is what Ikea characterized as a “fashion collaboration” aimed at creating unique designs. The retailer teamed up with British fashion designer Kit Neale to create the limited-edition Spridd collection, one inspired by today’s nomadic youth and developed for the young in spirit. The Spridd collection consists of four different prints motivated by four distinct music styles. Products in the collection include beanbags, towels, tote bags, posters and storage boxes.
“Whether it’s living in a smaller space or moving to new spaces frequently, for these fiercely independent individuals, it’s not about having more. It’s about choosing things to help you make the most out of life,” said Janice Simonsen, Ikea design spokesperson.
