Keyes Named Meijer CEO

Meijer has named Rick Keyes CEO. Keyes will add the CEO title after being named president last year. Before being appointed president, he had been Meijer’s evp/supply chain and manufacturing since 2006.

Hank Meijer, who held the title of CEO, will now serve as executive chairman of the Meijer board. All new roles will become effective January 1, 2017.

The company noted that, traditionally, the role of Meijer president at the privately held company has been filled by a non-family member, with the title of CEO through the years held by Fred Meijer and, later, son Hank Meijer. The company made the decision to adjust titles to align roles with current responsibilities. It added that Doug Meijer and Mark Meijer would remain actively involved in the company through their roles as directors.

“We have witnessed Rick’s deep understanding and appreciation of our culture and his passion for the people who make Meijer a great company,” Meijer said. “His accomplishments throughout a 27-year career, and his leadership as president for more than a year now, give us tremendous confidence in the future as he assumes a new title that better reflects his responsibilities.”
