Lowe’s Names McDermott Chief Customer Officer

Lowe’s has promoted Michael McDermott to the position of chief customer officer, reporting to Robert Niblock, the company’s chairman, president and CEO.

McDermott had been Lowe’s chief merchandising officer, a position he has held since 2014.

In his new and expanded role, McDermott will supervise the creation of experiences that serve customers and differentiate Lowe’s in an omnichannel environment. His responsibilities include leading strategy, customer insights, customer experience design and marketing. He also will continue to be responsible for overseeing the company’s full merchandising offering for all Lowe’s stores in the U.S. and Lowes.com, as well as all global sourcing activities.

McDermott succeeds Michael Jones, who has left the company to pursue other opportunities.

“We are extremely confident in Mike McDermott and happy that he has agreed to take on these expanded responsibilities and important role,” Niblock said. “Since joining Lowe’s three years ago, Mike has demonstrated exceptional management and leadership skills that make him ideally suited to lead Lowe’s efforts to create an even more exceptional home improvement experience for customers.”
