Midea is expanding its footprint in Silicon Valley with the opening of an Emerging Technology Center (ETC) in San Jose, CA.
According to the company, the facility will focus primarily on Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, chips and sensors with the goal of providing technological support as Midea expands into the high-tech arena.
The ETC is also part of Midea’s expansion in North America, which includes a new customer service center and expanded corporate office spaces, the company said. Midea plans to invest $250 million in the Silicon Valley ETC over the next five years.
“Technology and innovation never stand still, so it’s essential that Midea keeps driving ahead to remain globally competitive,” said Dr. Ziqiang Hu, vp/chief technology officer of Midea Group. “The new ETC will leverage the creative energy in Silicon Valley to help Midea to continue to grow and deliver innovative products to its customers.”
The California facility is the company’s second U.S. research and development facility following the launch of the Midea America Research Center in Louisville, KY. The company also has research centers in Japan, Italy and Germany, with other locations on the horizon.
