Pantone is going green for 2017. The company announced that Pantone 15-0343 Greenery is its 2017 color of the year.
Pantone characterized the hue as a “fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore, and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors.” The company added that the “fortifying attributes” of Greenery are signals for consumers to “take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.”
“While Serenity and Rose Quartz, the Pantone Color of the Year 2016, expressed the need for harmony in a chaotic world,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, “Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for amid a complex social and political landscape. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate, revitalize and unite, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”
Among retailers, Wayfair responded positively to the announcement with Jessica Dowling, head of the designer-oriented Wayfair Trade Services operation, commenting, “The Pantone Color of the Year for 2017 is new, fresh and exciting. We are entering a new era and are looking at the world in a new way. While there may be a lot of turmoil and divide in today’s world, there’s a clear signal that people are ready for something different. There is a common call for change, for a new approach to how things are done. We can also tie this to the new technology era we’re embarking on. Our world will transform significantly in the coming years.”
She added, “This green is hopeful, and optimistic and like spring signals the start of something new. It’s fresh yet edgy: a refreshing new way of doing green. This green is very livable. I love how it translates to apparel and home interiors.”
