Michelle Israel has been promoted to lead Macy’s Backstage and Bloomingdale’s The Outlets off-price divisions, according to a report by WWD. She will hold the title of senior vice president overseeing both divisions.
Since February of 2015, Israel served as senior vice president for The Outlets. Prior to that, she was vice president/DMM for Bloomingdale’s, a position she held for more than 10 years.
Macy’s was not immediately available for comment on Israel’s promotion.
The Backstage concept was launched by Macy’s in an effort to compete with off-price retailers such as Marshalls and T.J. Maxx. Currently, Macy’s operates nearly 50 Backstage outlets across the country with plans to further expand the concept.
