Sam’s Club Names Furner CEO

Sam’s Club will have a new CEO in February as John Furner has been named the company’s new chief executive. He replaces Rosalind Brewer, who is retiring and has served as the warehouse club’s chief executive since 2012.

Furner will assume the role of executive vice president, president and CEO of Sam’s Club on February 1.

Since October 2015, Furner has served as executive vice president and chief merchandising officer of Sam’s Club. Prior to being appointed to his current role, he served in a variety of roles with the company, including senior vice president and chief merchandising officer of Walmart China; senior vice president, home and apparel and global sourcing; and senior vice president, proprietary brands and merchandising solutions.

Furner joined the company as an hourly store associate in 1993 and served in a variety of roles including store manager, district manager, and buyer before being promoted to vp/divisional merchandise manager in 2006.
