Staples has been recognized as a Corporate Social Responsibility winner at the 2017 S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards.
Hosted by S&P Global Platts, a provider of information and benchmark prices for the commodities and energy markets, the annual awards program honors organizations and individuals in the energy industry dedicated to achieving excellence.
Among its recent environmentally conscious initiatives, Staples said it recently saved $1.5 million by changing from traditional lights to LEDs in over 1,000 stores and reduced water consumption by 65% at a Rialto, CA, facility by installing smart water meters.
In addition, Bob Valair, Staples director of energy management, earned a nomination for the Lifetime Achievement Award resulting from his contributions to energy conservation.
“Our company takes a great deal of pride in running our operations efficiently to minimize our environmental footprint and impact on the environment,” Valair said. “We are constantly looking at ways create awareness and educate our associates, customers and the community on how to conserve energy.”
