Sur La Table Appoints May CEO

Sur La Table has appointed Billy May as chief executive officer.

May, a fourth-generation retailer with over two decades of retail, digital marketing, and e-commerce experience, will also join the board of directors, the company said. He succeeds Diane Neal, who retired earlier this year.

May brings marketing, merchandising, and operations experience to Sur La Table with a strong focus on customer-facing growth initiatives across multiple platforms. He joins the company from Abercrombie and Fitch, where he most recently served as senior vice president and member of the executive leadership team. There, May was responsible for marketing, e-commerce, omnichannel and corporate expansion initiatives across all brands and geographies. Previously, he helped lead global digital and e-commerce at Adidas Group, and held various leadership roles at Sears Holdings and Lowe’s Companies.

“We would like to thank Diane for her leadership and many contributions to Sur La Table,” said Kevin Nickelberry, managing director at Investcorp and a member of Sur La Table’s board of directors. “We are excited to work with Billy going forward and believe his extensive experience across the digital landscape— marketing, e-commerce, and omnichannel— aligns well with Sur La Table’s strategic priorities.”

“As a lifelong retailer who is passionate about brands, I am excited to steward this iconic company,” said May. “Sur La Table has a history of guiding customers across their culinary journey and a heritage focused on developing unique, multi-faceted experiences. I look forward to building upon that foundation and working with the team in what promises to be an exciting future for the organization.”
