Target Readies Manhattan Initiatives

Target has big plans for the Big Apple, including its continued expansion into Manhattan and debut of a small format store next year on the Lower East Side.

The Lower East Side Store will occupy the second level of 145 Clinton Street at the Essex Crossing development, a building that incorporates more than 500 rental units. A second 2018 Target opening is slated for the East Village neighborhood at 500 East 14th Street on the corner of Avenue A. In 2019, Target plans to open a store in a Hell’s Kitchen, sometimes referred to as Clinton, neighborhood near the Theater District and the Port Authority terminal at 615 10th Avenue as well as a small format store in Jackson Heights in Queens. The company added that it would soon start testing a same-day delivery service for in-store purchases from its Tribeca location.

Target’s initiatives are part of its commitment to invest $7 billion in capital on stores, digital and supply chain by the end of 2019.

“Serving guests in New York is so important for Target, so we’re proud to continue growing our business and investing in the community,” said Tony Roman, senior group vp/New York stores, Target. “There’s no other place like Manhattan. It’s a thrill for us to be expanding here.”
