According to the Verizon Retail Index, which tracks e-commerce traffic at the top 25 U.S.-based digital retailers, this year’s Christmas Day celebration included a big jump in online sales.
Verizon stated that December 25, also the first full day of Hanukkah, saw a flurry of last minute e-card purchases as well as consumers redeeming gift cards and using downtime to find deals via the Internet.
E-commerce traffic volume to Verizon’s select digital retailers in the United States gained 48% on Christmas versus the same day last year, the company maintained, shattering all previous records. Peak e-commerce volume also skyrocketed on Christmas, up by 78%, Verizon noted, also breaking all previous records.
