Verizon Monitors New Year’s Online Shopping Surge

The Holiday Retail Index by Verizon, which monitors daily traffic volume to the top 25 U.S.-based online retailers throughout the holiday shopping season, determined that New Year’s weekend prompted a spending spree.

The Holiday Retail Index experienced a 15% jump in daily e-commerce traffic volume on New Year’s Eve versus 2016. E-commerce traffic volume spiked even higher on New Year’s Day year over year, Verizon stated, up 32%.

According to Verizon, ongoing incentives from retailers combined with downtime and bitter cold weather were likely behind a spike in e-commerce traffic over the holiday weekend.
