Walmart Boosts Back-To-School Shopping Services

Walmart is boosting its back-to-school/college shopping services this season, and expanding the number of items customers can order using its online pickup services.

The retailer has expanded the number of items customers can order online and pick up in stores across all categories versus last year’s back to school season. College students can shop for back-to-college items on Walmart.com and pick them up at a store close to campus. The retailer has increased the number of back-to-school staples offered for curbside delivery through its grocery pickup service. In addition, Walmart now offers 400 back-to-school items through its online order/same day indoor pickup service.

The company also has introduced back-to-school helpers to save customers time while they shop and has developed a dedicated back-to-school destination, walmart.com/classroomsupplies, that will enable customers to search and shop school supply lists for more than a million classrooms, the company said.

Walmart is integrating its resource, TeacherLists, into a dedicated back-to-school shopping destination that will enable customers to connect with classrooms and get school supply lists directly from teachers. Customers can plug in their zip codes to search individual classroom lists or shop from a general grade supplies list. Customers can download all the listed items to their baskets, then choose whether to pick up the items at their local stores or ship them to their homes.

“This back-to-school season, we’re keeping the math problems simple: adding savings, subtracting time,” said Scott Bayles, vp/stationery, Walmart U.S. “It’s always been our job to save our customers money, and we aren’t changing. You can still find more than 300 items under $1 at Walmart this back-to-school season. But we’re doing more than that. We’re also saving our customers time with easy ways to shop and multiple ways to get these items to students, so everyone can ace their school shopping.”
