Weight Watchers, Gibson Taps Into Healthy Living Movement

CHICAGO— Gibson Overseas is debuting a multi-category wellness story with its new Weight Watchers licensed housewares line, which the company is debuting at the International Home + Housewares Show, here.

Today’s modern and educated consumer is, more than ever, focused on a complete view of their health, noted Gibson.

“The issue is that it’s difficult for your average consumer to find a complete line of items for their table and kitchen that helps them on their journey to a healthier self,” said Tom Wien, Gibson’s director of marketing and licensing.

Earlier this year, Gibson partnered with Weight Watchers to develop a wide selection of kitchen tools and gadgets, storage containers, cookware, tableware and serveware focused on creating branded tools that make it easier to maintain a healthier lifestyle.

At the time of the announcement, Sal Gabbay, Gibson’s CEO, said, “For generations of Americans, the Weight Watchers brand has meant healthier choices. Their focus has gone beyond weight loss to offer a complete view of healthier living.”

Ryan Nathan, Weight Watchers’ vp/products, licensing and ecommerce, also stated, “We know our members spend a lot of time in their home cooking and experimenting with recipes, and by collaborating with Gibson to develop this great line of housewares, they will also now have Weight Watchers branded tools that make it easier than ever to maintain a healthier lifestyle.”

With healthy living a key consumer lifestyle preference, the company is looking to capitalize on the Weight Watchers brand name combined with its own expertise designing cookware and kitchenware.

Connie Bowman, Gibson’s vp/product development, explained, “To create this line Gibson merged its manufacturing expertise with Weight Watchers’ expertise on healthy living. We sourced the best materials and matched them with designs that allowed for things like portion control and reduced oil cooking.”

For example, Weight Watchers cookware was designed with this healthy cooking in mind. Stainless steel Dutch ovens include steamer inserts that help maintain nutrients and provide for oil-free cooking. Weight Watchers aluminum fry pans have a non-stick interior, which allows for healthier cooking with less oil. In addition to their functional benefit, these fry pans feature vibrant color schemes and a debossed patterned base.

Also at the show, Weight Watchers’ silicone microwave popcorn popper is designed to allow the consumer to cook up healthier, oil-free popcorn. To use, the consumer expands the popper, places in a half-cup of popcorn kernels, places the top on, and places it in the microwave for two to three minutes. The popper is collapsible and designed to be easy to use, wash and store.

Gibson’s new Weight Watchers collection also includes kitchen tools needed to prepare a healthy meal. For example, its six-piece cutlery set features stainless steel blades with a non-stick coating, which makes it easier to cut and slice vegetables, according to the company. Knives in the set also have triple-riveted, ergonomic handles designed for a comfortable and secure hold.

Also at the show under the license, the company will showcase cookware with pour spouts to drain excess fat, kitchen tools with portion control measurements, food storage including bento boxes, and gadgets including a juicer and spiralizer.

Weight Watchers tabletop items that will debut soon from Gibson include dinnerware, serveware, beverageware including glassware, and wine glasses. All of the tableware items will be designed with portion control in mind. for example, the wine glasses will include measurement marks.
