To support its digital strategies, Kohl’s has announced that it launched new customer shopping tools including a store mode for Kohl’s mobile app, enhanced mobile payment options such as Apple Pay, an omnichannel shopping bag that functions across platforms and Visa Checkout on Kohls.com and on its mobile site. In addition, Kohl's stated that it would pilot same-day delivery in select markets. The new store mode for Kohl’s mobile app will provide customers with a more personalized experience and help them search location inventory and find in-store promotions that can be applied to their purchases. Beginning in the fall, customers will be able to use Apple Pay in their purchasing, including via the Kohl's app. They also will be able to use their Kohl’s charge cards for payment within Apple Pay. Visa Checkout will roll out on Kohls.com and mobile devices as well. Also beginning this fall, the retailer's mobile app will provide enhancements to the company’s mobile wallet including the option to scan and save Kohl’s gift cards and direct delivery of promotional codes. As well as expanding payment options, Kohl’s has bridged its digital shopping carts into one virtual shopping bag consumers can access via smartphone, tablet or desktop. Customer shopping bags will automatically update when they log into their Kohl’s account no matter which devices they're using. By the end of the current month, Kohl's customers will have the option of using their smartphones or tablets to buy items online and pick them up in a convenient Kohl’s store, an ability that previously had been limited to desktop/laptop purchasing, the retailer said. Smartphone and tablet shoppers will encounter a redesigned Kohls.com mobile site, the retailer noted, that makes it easier for customers to find products they're seeking and that improves the mobile checkout experience. At the same time, Kohl’s is introducing an upgraded, more attractive tablet app that will integrate the Yes2You Rewards loyalty program and access to the mobile wallet. “Kohl’s is committed to providing our customers with an easy, convenient shopping experience in a way that is personalized and engaging no matter how each customer prefers to shop,” said Kevin Mansell, Kohl’s chairman, president and CEO. “Our digital teams are continually testing new ideas and capabilities to create a world-class omnichannel experience that is seamless across devices. With each evolution, we aim to elevate our offerings for an easy, inspiring shopping experience.”

The success of off-price retailing isn’t a new story. But it’s no longer the dirty little secret it once was to a housewares industry that wouldn’t dare discuss dealings with off-price stores for fear of rankling so-called mainstream customers.
