Minnesota-based Mills Fleet Farm is up for sale. According to a report in the Brainerd Dispatch, the regional retailer is looking at a “large pool of business suitors” to find one to take the company to the next level of growth. Stewart Mills III told the Dispatch that no final decision has been made on the 35-store chain that was founded in 1955 as Fleet Wholesale Supply. He said the Mills Automotive Group, with 12 franchises, is not part of the transaction. Mills Fleet Farm stores carry a variety of products including housewares and home furnishings. The Midwest chain is located in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and North Dakota. Mills said that the company has several interested parties and that officials are reviewing those to find the “best fit” for the retailer organizationally and for Mills Fleet Farm employees. "For the long term, this is what is right for the business, this is what is right for our employees," he told the Dispatch. "It's a very, very painful decision for the Mills family."
