Wal-Mart Stores has appointed Brett Biggs chief financial officer, effective December 31. The company also named Steve Bratspies chief merchandising officer for Walmart U.S. Biggs replaces Charles Holley, who is retiring from the company. Holley will remain with the company until January 31, 2016, to help with the transition. He has served as Walmart’s evp and CFO since December 2010. For the past two years, Biggs has served as evp and CFO of Walmart International. Prior, he was Walmart U.S. CFO from January 2012 until January 2014. “Brett is a strong leader whose broad experience uniquely qualifies him to lead our finance and strategy areas,” stated Walmart president and CEO Doug McMillon. “Having had a variety of important roles in all three of Walmart’s business segments, Brett is well prepared. He thoroughly understands Walmart’s operations, how we intend to compete in a dynamic and changing retail environment and how we can best serve customers, associates and shareholders.” Biggs will report to McMillon. Bratspies will oversee all merchandise categories across more than 4,500 stores in the United States beginning October 19. He will continue to report to Greg Foran, Walmart U.S. president and CEO. Bratspies has served as the evp/food for Walmart U.S. Foran said that Bratspies' "outstanding merchandising instincts and commitment to innovation and price leadership will challenge the status quo to serve our customers better.” In related news, the company appointed Charles Redfield to evp/food for Walmart U.S. Most recently, Redfield served as evp/merchandising at Sam’s Club. In addition, John Furner will now serve as evp/merchandising for Sam’s Club. Furner previously was chief merchandising and marketing officer at Walmart China.
