Macy’s off-price concept, Backstage, has moved beyond the northeast with the opening of two stores in Texas. The Dallas Morning News reported that the department store chain in mid-July opened two Backstage locations in Mesquite and Fort Worth. A third Lone Star State location is slated for a September opening in San Antonio. The stores, located within the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, are not far from J.C. Penney headquarters in Plano. As previously reported by homeworldbusiness.com, Macy’s Backstage premiered in September of 2015 with stores in the New York City metropolitan area, including locations in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island. The report indicated that Macy’s plans to have 22 Backstage stores opened by the end of the year. New stores will be in Washington, D.C.; Pennsylvania; New Jersey; and Long Island. Vanessa LeFebvre, svp/Macy’s, told the Dallas Morning News that the company plans to have 200 Backstage locations in less than five years.
